culture of clash

besonders schneefall vermag zwischen meinem spanischen kollegen (i) und mir (m) oft grundsaetzliche diskussionen um bewertungen von wetterphaenomenen zu entfachen. der folgende dialog hat so genau nie stattgefunden, ist stattdessen eher die quintessenz unserer debatten. der authentizitaet willen lasse ich es in der sprache, in der wir uns unterhalten - einem schoenen quasi-globish.

es schneit.
m: how wonderful (exciting/marvellous/..)!! it's snowing! finally, s-n-o-w.
i: brummel. i can't see how this is wonderful. it's fucking cold outside and there is no sun.
m: snow is one of the best weathers at all!
i: i need sun, i don't see sun, only clouds!
m: yes, clouds. but lovely clouds! and they are bringing us the snow!
i: they are hiding all the sun.
m: but.. isn't it enough to know that there is a sun? you don't need to see it all the time.
i: well, have you ever thought about why people in sweden do so much suicide?
m: i think that's rather finland..
i: ok, then it is finland.. this weather makes sick!
m: but the girls in scandinavia are beautiful and the people have a strange humor.. so it can't be all bad. and actually, if you want to have sun, scandinavia is the best. go to norway, in summer you have sunlight day and night!
i: yes, but that's sick, i want something normal. normal sunshine.
m: but not in winter!
i: in teneriffe we have sunshine in winter.
m: but where goes the beauty of the seasons? in spring everything blossoms and sunshine is allowed from april on. in summer i agree on sunshine and blue skies all the time. in autumn everything dies, sunshine is ok to make the nice red colors. and in winter you need snow! sunshine can still be nice, but it's much more important to have clouds which bring the snow. once snow covered everything, blue sky and sun is the dot on the i. but it still needs to be cold, so the snow doesn't melt away. you can't have sun all year long. that's boring.
i: perhaps it's like that for you, but not for me. look at my face, i've never seen this before. it's getting green because there is no sun for so long.

ja, und so geht das dann, on and on. ziemlich verfahrene situation, da kommen wir wohl so schnell auf keinen gemeinsamen nenner.
